About
James Barbour is not at all related to the Broadway actor, nor the waxed jackets, nor the one-time governor of Virginia (although there’s a passing resemblance). Of Scottish extraction, he was brought up in the South-East of England but feels most at home in Edinburgh.
He has been Press Secretary at the British Embassy in Moscow since August 2007, but wants to point out that this blog is unofficial, personal, and does not (necessarily) represent the views of Her Majesty’s Government. From 2004 to 2007 he worked in Public and Corporate Affairs at Hill & Knowlton.
This blog is his second. To read the first, go here or click the ‘archive’ button at the top of the page.
Tech bits: Made on a mac, hosted by SiteGround, running on WordPress. The theme is SeaShore from wordpressthemeshop.
The view, since a couple of you have asked, is the Hotel Ukraine reflected in the Moskva.

Hi mate – Moscow eh? Blimey! Well you were always a… well… at least *capable* of being, ah, diplomatic.
I’m still in London, still working in IT – albeit having taken some time out and being now, finally, the proud possessor of a 2:1 in Philosophy from King’s.
Would be great to hear from you.
Hallo James
Just published the book on Scotch whisky and independent Scottish bands as descendants of Ribert Burns today.
